Avanti West Coast and TransPennine Express are warning passengers not to travel this morning due to overhead wire damage caused by a fallen tree near Beattock.
The damage is between Lockerbie and Carstairs and means that all lines are blocked, with major disruption expected until the end of the day.
Avanti West Coast say that passengers should not travel north of Carlisle or south of Edinburgh / Glasgow Central.
TransPennine Express say that passengers should also not travel north of Carlisle, with trains from Manchester and Liverpool terminating there.
No replacement buses will be provided, but TPE passengers can use their ticket on TransPennine Express services between Manchester and York, York and Newcastle and Newcastle and Edinburgh, Avanti West Coast services (when the line reopens), as well as with CrossCountry, London North Eastern Railway, Lumo, Northern and ScotRail.
